Studio Policy and Terms

June 2023

Studio Members agree to the Policy and Terms at the time of registration. Please make sure to review studio policies during each registration period to ensure you know what expectations are.

Scheduling

Studio members will get priority to the schedule during the registration periods (July, December, June).

Studio Members will fill out a form during the registration period prior to the fall and spring sessions to request a lesson time slot. I will set the schedule and send out lesson time confirmations with a list of all your scheduled lesson times. This confirmation can be saved directly to your calendar via the email.

Once the schedule is set for Studio Members, the remaining slots will open up for rescheduling, as well as Drop-In and Waitlist Members.

Rescheduling

Please note that rescheduling is not guaranteed. The earlier you reschedule a lesson in the semester, the more likely you are to find a time, so please plan ahead.

Students are welcome to reschedule a lesson in case of a conflict. Rescheduled lessons must be:
1. Scheduled within the same week as the original lesson.
2. Rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice. Lessons with less than 24 hours notice cannot be rescheduled and singers will need to do a Video Assignment.

Missed/cancelled lessons cannot be carried over into another semester.

Attendance

Missed/Cancelled Lessons
If a singer needs to miss a lesson, they need to submit a video assignment by Friday of the missed lesson week. See the Video Assignment tab for details. The Video Assignment can only be used for a maximum of 5 lessons per session (Fall and Spring).

Missing more than 5 lessons each semester will put you back on the waitlist for the next semester.

Tardiness
If a student is more than 10 minutes late to a lesson without prior communication, it will be considered cancelled. Students who show up after those 10 minutes will not be able to attend their lesson.

No Shows
Three no-shows in a semester will lead to a termination of the Studio Membership without a refund of paid lessons and will put the Studio Membership waitlist for the following semester.

Online Lessons

Online voice lessons are run via Forte Lessons. Once you have indicated that you are taking online lessons, you will receive an email invitation from Forte Lessons to create an account with my studio. Create an account prior to your online lesson so you are set up.

Singers are expected to have their materials laid out and ready to use at the start of the lesson.

Young Artist Singers can access that week's sight reading or workbook assignment through the Practice Space app. Please pull this up prior to your online lesson as we will start the lesson with this exercise.

Illness

In the case of teacher or singer illness, we will try to reschedule the lesson during the same week. If we cannot find a time that works, we will do a Video Assignment that week.

Inclement Weather

In case of snow or inclement weather, singers have the choice to:
1. Take the risk and travel to lessons in-person
2. Have an online lesson (via Forte Lessons)
3. Do a Video Assignment (maximum of 5 per semester)

These options are entirely up to the comfort of the singer (and their family).

Lesson Expectations

Students need to arrive prepared with a binder for music and handouts, with blank paper for taking notes. If a student arrives without their binder, we will focus on musicianship, music theory ,and/or sight reading that day.

While singers have access to weekly lesson notes on the Practice Space App, singers are still expected to take their own notes throughout the lesson.

Recordings

All lessons are recorded as a reference tool. Students and teachers are not allowed to share these outside of the studio. They are only meant to be used as a lesson resource.

Singers and Parents/guardians (if applicable) can access recordings using the student’s Practice Space App within 48 hours following the lesson.

Visitors

Guests are permitted in the studio only if the student, teacher, and parent/guardian are in agreement.

Family members and guests are asked to stay outside the studio during the lesson to create a more comfortable learning environment for the singer. Families are welcome to sit on the front porch or stay in the back yard if you would like to stick around.

Parents/guardians of young singers ages 11 and younger are permitted to sit in on lessons. However, please make sure to be a silent observer and let the student be responsible for their own lesson time.

Membership Payment

Payment will be automatically withdrawn monthly on the date of the original registration date.

If a payment is cancelled due to insufficient funds, you can either re-run it using the “cancellation” email you receive, or it will be run again every other day until it goes through.

The Annual or Semester Studio Memberships cannot be cancelled mid-semester or year. If you choose to stop lessons, payment needs to be made in full.

If a monthly payment does not go through, singers cannot attend lessons until the payment is made.
