Sarah Hamilton
Voice Teacher and Studio Founder
Hi! My name is Sarah Hamilton, and I run Hamilton Voice Studio. I’m so excited about the possibility of working with you and being a part of your musical journey.
Looking for a voice teacher and reaching out to someone about voice lessons can be scary. I get it! Our voices are a big part of our identity and it can feel intimidating to go to someone for voice lessons.
I work hard to create a fun and safe environment for you to explore your voice. I’m not here to judge your singing voice and tell you how to “fix” it. My goal is to help you learn more about your instrument and strengths, discover the sound that YOU want to have, and learn how to achieve your singing goals.
In voice lessons, we make funny and strange sounds to achieve our goals. It can be weird. And awkward. I promise to always jump in there with you and laugh, play, and explore your singing voice together. This is a safe place to discover your authentic voice!
About Me
I grew up in Harrisonburg , Virginia and took part in many of the same extra curricular activities as most of my young singers. I was in the Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir, I sang in my school choir, and I participated in some of the musical productions at Harrisonburg High School.
I went to Messiah College in Pennsylvania to study Vocal Performance. While there, I loved the small classes and deep relationships I cultivated with my professors and mentors. I was a member of Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Opera Workshop, and more. It was while studying with my voice teacher, Elaine Henderson, that I fell in love with the pedagogy of singing. When I took her Voice Pedagogy class and started teaching students on my own, I knew I found my passion.
My next step was to study Vocal Pedagogy for graduate school. I knew I wanted to open a voice studio, but I wanted it to be different. I didn’t want to teach music on the side, I wanted to deepen my knowledge of pedagogy and turn my passion into a business. I wanted to create a safe community of singers who all wanted to learn and grow together.
I auditioned and got in to both Pennsylvania State University and Shenandoah Conservatory. I loved the focus on pedagogy and science at Shenandoah, so I moved back to Virginia for my Master of Music degree in voice pedagogy. It’s there that I fell in love (again) with different styles of music. I realized how much I had suppressed my love of music theater and popular styles of music. Shenandoah gave me the opportunity to explore these styles and open my mind to other ways of singing.
I moved back to Harrisonburg in 2013 and opened the studio after I graduated in 2014. It has been incredibly fun to see how rich music has become in the Shenandoah Valley. I love being a part of this community that values art, music, musicals, and more. I deeply enjoy working with each of my singers, and hope that you and I get to work together soon!
